This course is designed to provide participants with the ability to implement skills required to research, evaluate, review and understand the complex concepts of the Buddhist texts as they apply to contemporary society.

It will provide participants with a range of knowledge and skills to implement analytical skills to interpret the message of Buddhist texts from what is known as the Infinite Life Sutra, the Amitabha Sutra, The ‘Chapter on the Vows and Practices of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva’ from the Flower Adornment Sutra, the Diamond Sutra, Cultivating the Profound Essence of the Flower Adornment Sutra through the Insight of Ending Delusions and Returning to the Origin, Precepts for Novice Monks and apply them to contemporary society.

Participants will also be able to design and develop lectures on sutras.

Entry Requirements

1. Preferably a Bachelor Degree or at least a Year 12 Certificate in Australia (Senior High School Certificate) or an overseas equivalent qualification recognized by an accrediting authority, and provide a notarized (English translated) copy.
2. Have attained fluency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Mandarin.
3. Be able to recite by memory《論語》《大學》《中庸》《老子道德經》《莊子內篇》《佛說大乘無量壽莊嚴清淨平等覺經》《金剛經》in Mandarin.
4. Complete the English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS)*.
5. Attend an online workshop, and pass the academic and virtues assessment given by the Department of Sinology Studies.
*If the applicant is from an English-speaking background and can demonstrate high level English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, then completion of ELICOS is not required.
